High-stepping pop with style and swagger

Is this playlist for me?

If you enjoy any of the following, this playlist may be worth checking out:

  • High-energy, unapologetically catchy pop music. These are songs by writers who know how to craft a hook and set up a chorus.
  • Music that makes you feel larger than life, like you’re about to take the stage before a throng of adoring fans. There’s an opening up and expanding quality in the songs, usually in the chorus.
  • Sabrina Carpenter’s Espresso—if you are looking for more music with that unique blend of melodic hooks, lush production and nostalgic vibes, this playlist is for you.

If I were just going to listen to one song, which should I pick?

Run Your Mouth by The Marias is a standout track and a great place to start. Check out its intricate arrangement, crisp production and expansive chorus.

Sofia Vivere is a talented pop songwriter from Sweden who is flying under the radar; either of her songs in this playlist (Velvet Rose or Loving You) are great representatives of this carefully-crafted, vintage style of pop.

What genres are represented in this playlist?

Electropop, pop, indie pop, nu-disco, metropopolis

What should I listen for?

Notice the moment in the song when you feel suddenly feel taller than everything around you. As if you could cross a city block with a single step. Your chest opens up, your shoulders draw back, and your walk turns into a strut. The songs in this playlist bring you into contact with this quality.

If I like this playlist, what other ones should I check out?

Forward is also made up of new, high-energy, catchy pop, but it has a more overt 80s slant and a “leaning-forward” quality in the groove rather than the laid-back swagger of Snap.

Snap also shares the sense of “expanding” that is present in Audacious, as well as the sense of height and scope associated with Mega. All three are made up of big pop songs, but with Snap it’s more like you are embodying this energy rather than observing it. If Mega is like being at the base of a skyscraper and looking up, Snap is like being on the 50th floor and looking down. They are about the distinct pleasures of feeling small and feeling big, respectively. If Audacious is about being displaced by an expansive presence, Snap is about being the expansive presence that forces others to move aside.
